Rippling Wishes

Native Hostel, also known as “Austin’s living room” is an experiential cocktail lounge, event venue, and cultural incubator. Housed in an historic 19th century railroad station, Native honors its Austin roots by featuring local artists and local musicians that the locals love.

The concept for this was developed from the events theme - 'Reflections'. I built this 8' x 4.5' 'reflecting pool' by papermaching chicken wire and craft paper to sculpt the rocks, spraying the structure with different colored and textured paint, adding living moss to it, as well as 20 hand-cut, beautiful 3D butterflies. I also installed remote controlled color changing LED lights between the pond and the affixed mylar. Once the piece was installed, I then wrote instructions and a meditation prompt beside a bowl of 1,000 white flower petals for people to "make a wish" and throw it into the pond.
